What is the difference between a wedding ring and an engagement ring?
Q. I am engaged and I have an engagement ring. I do not like the way it looks with a band against it. Do I just use it as my wedding ring or do I get a new ring. All of the rings I like are labeled engagement and not wedding. What is the difference? Does it matter? Am I supposed to get a ring with a band because I do not like hardly any of those. Please do not just tell me to do whatever I want. I want to know the difference. Thank you.

A. The engagement ring is what you give your gal when you propose to her. The wedding ring is what you and she exchange usually at the wedding ceremony. This is traditionally why a man buys 2 ring. His girlfriend or fiance will by him the man s wedding band. Good Luck!

Which ring has to be better, the wedding ring or the engagement ring?
Q. I didn't even know before that there was a difference between them. Most women I know only always had the wedding ring on, which was usually golden and matches their husband's wedding ring. Therefore the wedding ring always seemed to be the important ring. But after doing more research, it seems that many women seem to wear both. Is that a newer thing or does it depend on the country? Because I have really never seen that before. Which ring is considered to be the more important ring and usually costs more?

A. The engagement ring typically costs more. The wedding ring is typically the most important because it is symbolic of the marriage. Remember that rings are not necessary, although most women want them. A ring is only a ring until you attach the meaning to it. I live in northeast USA. What a woman wears is her preference. My friend in Massachusetts never wanted an engagement ring, so she only has a wedding ring to wear. My mother-in-law in Connecticut doesn't wear any rings, although she has them both. Everyone else I know wears both rings together. When my husband and I bought our wedding bands (which we shopped for together), the jeweler told me that because my ring is technically an eternity band, it can never be sized and… [cont.]

How does the engagement and wedding ring thing work?
Q. My boyfriend and I decided to get marry next month nothing big but the sooner the better. I have no idea what the rules about the rings are. Is he suppose to buy me an engagement ring and then a wedding ring or can you buy them as a pair and just wear one until you're marry or do you need to have an engagement ring and buy a separate one to get married. Help!
Asked by Smiley - Sun May 16 10:27:01 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Either way you want. We bought mine as a set and bought his separately. They don't match, but we didn't care. I wear the engagement ring now and will wear the set when we're married. Honestly I think it's better to buy as a set because you can't always find a band to match the engagement ring. After you're married the band goes on your finger first and then the engagement ring unless you have a ring jacket(that's what we got).

Why is my wedding ring turning my finger colors all the sudden?
Q. My wedding ring is turning my finger greenish black. It looks like tarnish, except that my ring is solid gold and I have worn it for 14 years. What is causing this? I have not been using any cleaners or different soap so I dont think it is from chemicals.

A. That's happened to me too...but usually just goes away...must be a chemical reaction with some body hormone at a particular time...my jewelry is gold but it happens for what appears to be no reason...then doesn't occur again for months...weird...

Whats the difference between an Engagement ring and a Wedding ring ?
Q. Im from asia, and over here marriages are done differently but i have often seen in the movies that people propose with a ring. The ring that they offer while proposing, down on their knees, is it the engagement ring ?? And then again there is a wedding ring ??? And which one contains the diamond ???

A. Traditionally and Engagement ring is a band with a Solitaire diamond. It is given when the man asks the woman to marry him. The wedding ring is a solid band that has no end and is give when the couple actually gets married. The woman will usually wear both rings on the left hand ring finger everyday for the rest of her life.

How much did your wedding/engagement ring cost? What about your spouse's?
Q. I'm planning on getting married in a year and I'm not quite sure how much you are suppose to spend on rings. My sister, getting married next month, spent $900 on her future husbands ring and he got her a $2000 engagement ring and a $800 wedding ring. So i was wondering how much were your rings?
Asked by Halliey G - Fri Apr 17 10:19:48 2009 - - 33 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Don't spend any more than you can afford: that's the best guideline, not what other people spent, not some percentage of your income. My engagement ring was a family heirloom that my husband's mother left him when she died a few years ago. Due to the style of the ring, I chose not to get a separate wedding band, so I wear just the one ring, which cost nothing. My husband chooses not to wear a wedding ring, so I didn't buy him one, so the cost again is nothing. It's not the price of the rings that matters, it's the love in the couple that counts.

A. Thats really pretty, whoever gets that is a lucky girl! Honestly, I would NOT buy a ring online. The best way to make sure you don't get ripped off is to research the proper way to buy a diamond ring... Do a google search for "buying an engagement ring" or "buying loose diamonds" There is more to it than you know! OFTEN times, buying online is another way to support child labor. Or cheap labor from other countries...stay away from Debeers for instance! I wouldn't trust an online seller.. Best to see what your buying in person! I think that if you print out that image, and go to a few different loose diamond dealers, who would also own a jewelery shop, you will get the best results. They know the industry well! Can I wear a 9ct White gold wedding Ring with a 18ct White Gold engagement ring?
Q. I have found a Lovely 9ct White Gold wedding ring and i cant find it in 18ct White Gold! My Engagement ring is 18ct Gold will it make any difference? I have asked a similar question earlier but worded it very wrong!!! Sorry!
Asked by Saz S - Fri Apr 9 15:55:53 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Of course you can... White gold is formed from other metals they mix with yellow gold so the only difference between the 9K and the 18K is the amount of alloys (other metals) that they used to make the mix. The only thing you should check on is if they used nickel in the mix. Lots of people have a reaction to wearing nickel so they've mostly stopped using it in making white gold but it is worth checking out. On the other hand, if it does and you don't have a reaction to nickel, then go with it anyway. Congrats on finding your rings...so exciting!

A. Get it appraised by a certified appraiser. He will tell you the metal (gold, platinum etc and the karat) and the stones (diamonds, rubies etc and the cut, color, carat weight and clarity) and then he will give you a written appraisal. Yes, you must pay for this. Takes about 30 minutes

A. An engagement ring is what the man gives the woman when he proposes marriage to her and she accepts. Once she accepts, they are engaged. Usually the ring is a solitary diamond, but sometimes there are other diamonds to decorate the ring. The solitary diamond is a symbol that the woman is his one-and-only love. A wedding ring is a band. The bride and groom exchange bands during their wedding ceremony after they have exchanged their wedding vows. (The bride will buy the groom his wedding band and vice versa). Sometimes the band is plain, sometimes is has smaller diamonds or engraved decorations on the ring. The band represents their eternal unending love, just as the band's circle has no beginning and no end. The wedding ring does not have… [cont.]

Should you wear your wedding ring to a job interview?
Q. I know there are pros and cons to wearing a wedding ring to a job interview. The pros would be showing stability and committment. The cons would be the inabililty to flirt (or at least appear to be the charming single person) and discrimination against a potential employee who may have too many dependents to cover regarding medical insurance. Since it's illegal to ask a potential employee the marriage question, does it make sense to keep them wondering by not wearing the ring?
Asked by lj - Wed Nov 28 10:13:02 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would wear my ring. You are correct that this shows stability and committment. And if i'm hiring, that is what i want. You are not getting paid to flirt. And a married person can be charming. We are married, not dead.

How much should a wedding ring cost?
Q. I'm not looking forward to the cost of the ring, the wedding, and all the other bills that come with this event but I do love this girl and this is going to happen. I'm thinking the average is about 6-10k for the ring. Is this too much? Too little? What does everyone think?
Asked by Sean S - Thu Jul 8 03:54:42 2010 - - 24 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That's plenty! You should only get what you can afford *without* incurring debt. I got my wife's ring at Diamond Brokers of Florida: Or you could check out these other online sources: www.WhiteFlash.com www.GoodOldGold.com www.ExcelDiamonds.com www.BlueNile.com Blue Nile's database is good, but they don't provide you with photos or analysis reports (ASET, Isee2, B-scope, etc) of the diamond. I wouldn't go with them for that reason. Happy hunting. * * *

Why does a wedding ring have to have a diamond?
Q. Why does a wedding ring have to have a diamond in it when there are so many pretty gems out there? Personally, I find that if it was some other stone (real stone of course) it would appear to be a more well-thought out ring since everyone seems to be getting a diamond. So why does it have to be a diamond? Your thoughts? I love diamonds, but I just feel that they are way too expensive. I wouldn't get it even if I could afford it for the fear of losing it. And I'm not getting married. I'm just curious as to why people spend so much on rings.
Asked by Hmmm... - Wed Aug 27 12:43:39 2008 - - 35 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A diamond is the stongest and hardest gemstone. You will be wearing this ring nearly all the time for the rest of your life. I would think long and hard about getting another gem for this very reason. Some gems like Emeralds and opals are very very fragile and need specialist care to maintain their colour. In addition, be careful about which setting you choose, some modern ones though beautiful, are more prone to breaking if they are knocked. Claw settings (4 or more), and rub-over settings are the safest.

Is there a difference in price between an engagement ring and and wedding ring?
Q. I've wondered whether traditionally the wedding rings are less expensive than the engagement ring. There's always the "two month salary rule" for engagment rings but what about wedding rings?
Asked by Mike M - Wed Aug 1 09:04:44 2007 - - 22 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the engagement is definitely more because it usually has just one diamond (solitaire). one diamond will cost more than the same weight of diamonds broken up into smaller ones. and usually wedding bands dont have diamonds, although mine do. both wedding bands cost us half the amount the engagement ring cost.

Were you able to wear your wedding or engagement ring after having a baby?
Q. I wore my wedding ring my whole pregnancy except for maybe 2 weeks that my fingers where a bit swollen. After I had my baby I couldn't wear it my fingers were swollen, I lost the baby weight and cannot wear my ring still. Does it happen to every mother? My baby is almost 7 months, my fingers haven't gotten thinner should I just get it re-sized or does it take a while longer to sometimes be able to wear your rings.
