Wedding ring?
Q. Hi folks, I'm starting to look for a ring for my girlfriend. I was wondering, how engagement/wedding rings work? Do people still buy the engagement ring (the one with the rock) and add another smaller ring at wedding or is it now the same ring that is exchanged at both occasion?
Asked by Boomer - Thu Dec 7 09:17:31 2006 - - 25 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes it still works the same. Except now the engagement rings available don't just have one diamond. They still have the single diamonds available but now they have rings that are covered in diamonds. Make sure you keep in mind what color gold she wears in her jewelry now. Does she wear white gold, regular yellow gold, or does she wear platinum? That is important but other than that you choose whatever style that she will like the best and that your wallet allows you to purchase. Good luck!!!

What is the difference between a wedding ring and a wedding band?
Q. And what should a wedding band look like? How can you tell the difference from a normal ring to a wedding ring? Are wedding rings always made of gold? How much should a simple wedding ring/band cost?

A. ok so your wedding ring is the ring you get when u are engaged. it belongs on your ring finger [ironic yes?] and that is how u tell it is a wedding ring and not a regular ring. when u actually get married u get the wedding band which goes under the wedding ring. traditionally wedding rings are gold or white gold but realy u can do watever you want. if it were me id get silver

Took off my wedding ring and now my finger is deformed, how long before it goes back down to size?
Q. I've been married for 8 years and 5 years ago when I was pregnant my fingers swelled up and I was unable to take my wedding ring off. That is, until today, more than 5 years later. Now that I took it off, Im planning to have it resized, but Im wondering how long it might take before my ring finger no longer looks deformed. I have quite an indent where my ring use to be. Any thoughts on this?

What is the difference between an engagement ring and a wedding ring?
Q. Ladies, when your man wants to marry you, does he buy an engagement ring and a wedding ring, or are they both the same thing? Do ladies prefer it when your mother or your grandmother gives you her wedding ring to have or do you prefer to have your own ring? Q. Im from asia, and over here marriages are done differently but i have often seen in the movies that people propose with a ring. The ring that they offer while proposing, down on their knees, is it the engagement ring ?? And then again there is a wedding ring ??? And which one contains the diamond ???

The wedding ring is a solid band that has no end and is give when the couple actually gets married. Where are you supposed to wear your wedding ring?
Q. I know it goes on your left hand ring finger (unless you are of the tradition on your left hand ring finger or right hand as some cultures are), but is your engagement ring supposed to be on top of or underneath your wedding ring or does it matter? I wear my engagement ring on top of my wedding ring because I think it looks better with the particular set that I have. But should it be underneath my wedding ring? Most people I see have their engagement ring underneath their wedding ring.

What is the proper way to wear wedding and engagement ring together?
Q. My cousin is getting married in June, and she plans to wear her wedding ring to the outside of her engagement ring. My cousin argues that the engagement ring is placed on first, so it is supposed to be worn to the inside. When I got married, i didn't wear my engagement ring at the ceremony, because I thought the wedding band was supposed to be placed and worn at the base of the finger. Therefore I wear my wedding ring to the inside. Does anyone know the proper way it's supposed to be worn?

A. You are supposed to wear your engagement ring on your other hand during the ceremony. The wedding ring goes on during the ceremony, and you put your engagement ring back on after. Your wedding ring should always be first, as it is closest to your heart, and your engagement ring is a "shield" to your wedding ring. You are right, your cousin is wrong.

What could be causing a skin irritation under a wedding ring on that particular finger?
Q. My wife has been experiencing an irritation on her ring finger under her wedding ring and band. A particular ointment has helped it lately but then it comes back. A. My sister and my husband had the same problem. Some people eventually develop an allergy to metals over the course of several months (like my husband) or they can get them within minutes (like my sister). For my husband, I got rid of the cheap 10k gold and got him a cheap titanium ring and its was perfect. My sister wears surgical steel jewelry usually, or platinum. Good luck. Its not a satanic curse or anything.. :)

How does one make a titanium wedding ring fit?
Q. My fiance recently received his titanium wedding ring in the mail. Unfortunately, he's between sizes. The size 9 fit comfortably over his large knuckles, but is too loose on the base of his finger. The 8 and 1/2 wouldn't fit over his knuckles at all. Since it's titanium, we thought it would be safe to get the 9 in order to account for future weight fluctuations, but it's way too loose right now. What type of ring grips/guards are out there and which ones are the most effective/affordable?
Asked by Lizzy-Beth - Mon Apr 6 16:55:58 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Get a ring guard to put on--you can usually find them at the jewelers for really cheap. Otherwise, the ring should fit comfortably over his large knuckle and be a little loose at the base--this means that it's not too tight. If the only problem really is that it spins, then just go to the store and get a guard.

Why and where does the choice of hand for the wedding ring differ?
Q. Here in the UK we all wear our wedding rings on our left hand. I have a German friend, however, who wears her wedding ring on her right hand. A. Yes, it is perfectly alright to mix platinum and white gold rings, noone will ever tell the differance - here is why: Both platinum and white gold are plated with a metal called rhodium. White gold jewelry is nearly always plated with rhodium because the metal gold is really yellow in color and when they melt it and alloy it (that is mix other metals into it) to 'whiten' gold it still has a faintly yellowish tint. Rhodium gives white gold that color that is pure silvery white like chrome. Platinum, which is already white, needs to be plated with rhodium because platinum has a dull luster and not give us that shiny mirror polish like silver or gold. So whether a ring is white gold or platinum - you are really looking at RHODIUM (which, by… [cont.]

Q. Unfortunately, my marriage did not work out, therefore, where is a good place to sell my wedding ring. I went to the jeweler store where I got the ring and they said there is nothing they can do for me. Since my marriage did not work out, I don't wear my ring anymore. A. You'd only ever get back a fraction of it's value. You could just hold onto it until you have the money to change it into something else. Melt it down, have it remodelled. Kind of symbolic of out with the old and in with the new.

A. You'd only ever get back a fraction of it's value. You could just hold onto it until you have the money to change it into something else. Melt it down, have it remodelled. Kind of symbolic of out with the old and in with the new.

What is the best way to clean my wedding ring set?
Q. I just got my wedding ring set professionally cleaned. They also re-dipped, tightened the diamonds, and resized it for me. It looks brand new! How do I keep it looking clean and new? (I have a jewelry cleaner, but I was wondering if there was a better, or more natural cleaner? Or is the jewelry cleaner the best way to go?) Thanks for your help!

A. I make jewelry for a living, and one thing that I used to have a problem with was keeping materials from tarnishing before I got a chance to use them. I ran across this tip and it works like a charm for the things you need to store but want to keep clean, including silverware: rub them with a very thin coating of Alberto VO5 Hair Dressing (the greasy hair stuff in the tubes - yes, they still make it!), then wipe your jewelry with a polishing cloth to remove any excess, and store each piece/kind in a Ziploc bag that has all of the air pushed out. I'm assuming that you will be actually WEARING your wedding rings, though, and while this treatment will help them some, it will rub off rather quickly. I clean all of the precious metal jewelry… [cont.]

How do wedding ring/engagement rings work? when to give what?
Q. Im planning on proposing to my girlfriend as soon as i look for and buy a ring but im kinda confused. Theres bridal sets which go together, and theres engagement rings then weedding rings to givin at the wedding obviously. In the second instance, should the engagement ring be the larger of the two or should the wedding ring itsself be larger? thanks

A. Think of it this way. There is the diamond engagement ring which you buy and give to her when you want to propose. Then there is there are the wedding bands which you buy closer to the wedding date and exchange at your actual wedding ceremony. You see some bridal "sets" which consist of the diamond engagement ring and also the wedding band. The reason these are sold this way is because they are made to go together as a set, meaning they match. You can buy a set if you like but only give her the diamond engagement ring when you propose. Hold the band for the wedding day. I also suggest you to go a local jeweler in your area rather than one of the chain stores in the mall. A jeweler is much more knowledgeable. Good luck! :-)
