How does couting how many calories burned work?
Q. Ok, so when i asked the question on trying to find out how many calories i should eat someone told me to find my resting metabolic rate. So i did. Its somewhere in the 2,000's. My question is, say you burn 500 calories with a workout, do you add that to your resting metabolic rate and then thats how many calories you burned for the day or do you just say you only burned 500 calories? I meant to say how many calories to eat to lose weight. Sorry.

A. Yes, you add it to your resting calories. So, somewhere around 2500 would be about right in your example. So, if you were exercising to lose weight and taking in around 2000 calories in your daily meals, that would leave you with a net loss of 500 per day. Since you have to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound, at that rate, it would take around a week. It's really that simple.

How many calories are burned during a body sculpting class?
Q. I don't know what to fill it in as. Circuit training says an hour would be around 450 calories burned which I don't think is correct. How much would an hour of body sculpting workout class burn? I would say it's a moderate intensity.

A. I am a member of body by glamour on www.glamour.com and on that site you can type in your weight and height and other vital stats. A. No, they are not spot on at all. They provide nothing more than a rough estimate, at best. The amount of energy you consume or expend (measured in calories) when engaged in physical activity depends on a large number of factors which the simple computers on exercise equipment just don't take into account. Even things like the time of day, temperature and humidty have an effect. Use their readings as a guide from one day to the next but don't treat the readings as bang on accurate because they can be out by quite a wide margin. They have a broad tendency to over estimate for the unfit and under estimate for the very fit.

Q. I just did a 1 hour 24S.E.T. class (like a cardio-lifting class, basically). It was exhausting, and my muscles are all shaking. I'm just curious as to how many calories it likely burned. I'm 5'9, 135 lbs. Thanks! Also, does anyone know the benefit of doing exercise class versus just exercising on your own? I eat very well, thank you. Plenty of slow-burning carbs and lean proteins. And I drink Crystal Lite like it's my job.

Does the amount of calories burned increase as I fatigue?
Q. I burn approximately 800 calories in a 40 minute cardio work out. After I reach my target heart rate, does the number of calories burned per minute increase as my body gets fatigued which in reality would result in a higher calorie burn rate per minute than when I first reach my target heart rate? For example at 8 minutes I would be burning 17 calories per minute however at 35 minutes I would be burning 24 calories per minute. Or do calories burned remain a constant throughout?

A. Well from what I can find and from what I've experienced working out, it is not consistent. You have a certain amount of energy that you exert at different intervals. You diet may consist of different levels of proteins, fats, sugars and carbs on different days. If this intake of food can not remain a consistent than how can the calorie burn or the levels of energy that you exert. I have found that even in the middle of a work out on certain days I can feel a second wind, and even seem to work through the fatigue, when on other days I just peter out quicker. It's all about the diet. Just keep up with your work out plan and try not to over exert. That can actually cause your harm than good and lessen your recoup time in-between work… [cont.]

A. When I took physics in college one of the problems was to calculate how many calories Bob burned while on a stationary bike utilizing a magnetic flywheel for resistance. This is a very straightforward calculation if you know the strength of the magnet and the speed (RPM's) at which the disk is turning. The values I calculated were ballpark accurate with what the readouts tell me when I use a machine. Treadmills and elliptical machines are also simple. Basically you can calculate how much work is being done to move a given weight a certain distance. These numbers are very simple to calculate using basic laws of physics. If you don't eat 3500 calories to gain a pound,then is the remainding calories burned?

A. None that i've heard of. How would it know what you ate that day & how much excersise you did. Your just trying to take the lazy way out. You can probably find a website somewhere that has something your looking for except you would have to imput everything (ie. weight, height, food eaten, exercise etc)

A. None that i've heard of. How would it know what you ate that day & how much excersise you did. Your just trying to take the lazy way out. You can probably find a website somewhere that has something your looking for except you would have to imput everything (ie. weight, height, food eaten, exercise etc)

Q. I would like to know how many calories I am loosing along with the times I need to do these exercises. Or if you just know the amount of calories burned doing things like running, yoga, jump ropes, squats and stuff. that would be great 2 :) thanks!

Is there a difference in calories burned with pumping and breast feeding? If so what is it?
Q. I am 5 months pregnant with my second child right now. With my first child I pumped because I had a c-section and it was hard to get a proper position for feeding. I also liked knowing exactly how much my first child was eating. Anyways, I just wanted to know how many calories I can burn a day by pumping vs. latch feeding. Would the calories burned be any different?
