What cultural and social changes were brought about by the printing press that changed modern history?
Q. In every scientific poll on inventions, the printing press has consistently been voted the most significant invention of the past 2000 years. What cultural and social changes were brought about by the printing press that changed modern history? Do you agree with this assessment or would you vote for another invention?
Asked by Abby B_As Fine As Could Be - Mon Apr 7 18:39:35 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Generally, the printing press allowed for the wide dispersal of literature of every kind, from the Bible to pamphlets promoting more democratic forms of government. Now, in order for those products to be understood, literacy must increase. Thus, immediately following the printing press was a huge increase in literacy. This has far reaching implications in culture and society. If more people can read, there is a greater demand for books, newspapers, and anything that promotes reading. Therefore, culture develops . Society changes because people can read and understand what effects laws and such have on them, so they can change how society is organized and operates. Thus, the assessment is the most significant invention of the past 2000… [cont.]

How has housing changed since 1966? How have vacations changed since 1966? How have clothing and hair styles changed since 1966? How have gadgets changed since 1966? A. I was alive in 1966, and I must say: Everything has changed since 1966! In that year, the war in Viet Nam was escalating, and the Hippie movement was just beginning. (The year 1967 saw "The Summer of Love" in San Fransisco, particularly.) In 1966 there were no personal computers; I worked in a new hospital which was one of the first in our area to be "computerized"; the computers were huge "machines" housed in a second floor room where the temperature was rigidly coolly controlled; the hospital had central air conditioning -- almost unheard of in northern Ohio in those days. Of course all commercial items, cars, houses, and food were much much less expensive than they are today, and the availability and variety of foods were not so… [cont.]

Q. I had to fill in 2 lines on form 8863 of my amended return. Nothing else changed on any other form, not even the original 1040. Do I only send in the 1040X and the amended 8863 or do I need to send in the "new" 1040 (even though there is nothing different)? Thanks. Perfect, this is what I thought but you can't be too careful with the IRS. Thanks for your help.

A. You are always only required to submit the 1040X and any forms that relate to the change. I have been known to send more if there is a complex issue that requires some explanation.

Have the dogfights changed since the installation of missiles?
Q. Please tell how have they changed as well. Well! which's your favourite fighter plane.
Asked by Richi - Fri May 2 11:54:05 2008 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments

A. First, lets define "dogfight". A dogfight is a low to medium speed, close-in, turning fight, usually not involving missiles as the range will often be too short to employ them. This makes the primary weapon of the dogfight the gun. If missiles are used, they'll typically be short-range missiles like the AIM-9 sidewinder. In such short-range missile shots, the maneuvering techniques don't change much. In close in fighting, the absolute goal is to get behind your oponent, which gives you the best chance for successful attack. Snap shots made fom off angles are rarely successful. In such a fight, the tactics are aften very similiar to those developed in the early days of military aviation. The largest difference is simply that the speeds are… [cont.]

I wouldnt want to buy something thats going to cost alot of money if i saw a common looking person on it (lol) because I'd think that it would make me look like a common person.. and who just wants to be "common"??? people only say "i'd like it if models were shorter and heavier" because they think they could be a model if this was the case..lol... get over it.. What fuse in my fuse box needs to be changed to fix the overhead console on my 1999 Ford Explorer?
Q. My overhead console has gone out but flashes on when I start my Ford Explorer so I know that the fuse simply needs to be changed. However, I don't know which fuse needs to be changed. I have looked at online diagrams but none of them specificly states what fuse I need to change. Does anyone know exactly which fuse it is?
Asked by cbx321 - Sat Feb 23 14:32:37 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Probably an instrument fuse or map light fuse. But since it flashes on... one might think something else has gone wrong but a good place to start at is... check the fuse. Learn how to use a test light. I use test lights to check everything. They will tell you if a fuse is blown, where you have power, where you don't, if a switch is working or not. Anyone who does not know how to use a test light does not know the basics to diagnose a problem. I'm not being mean... I just think you will save yourself lots of grief and money if you learn to diagnose with a test light.

We've also both talked a LOT about the different things that we think are necessary to make a marriage work. A. You never change out the bio-media ... this is what holds the good bacteria and if you remove it, you tank must go through a cycle again!!! Carbon media should be changed out when it is recommended, since it goes bad. I replace carbon media with more bio-media, so I never have to replace that part. I only use carbon when removing meds ... here is why (scroll down or read it all) If your bio-media looks more dirty, as in solid particles, not color because the bacteria will discolor it, then lightly rinse it in TANK water from a water change OR dechlorinated water. Tap water will kill the bacteria. You could age some water in a 5 gallon bucket for 24+ hours and the chlorine would evaporate, but if it is chloramines, you would still… [cont.]

How often do you need to get your roters changed on a four year old car?
Q. I live in Los Angeles and only have 37,000 miles on my car (Saab 9-3). Everytime I come in to get my break pads changed, they tell me I need new roters. I've already changed them once. Is it possible they're lying about having to change them again? This seems a bit excessive to me.
Asked by Sam - Thu Nov 15 12:24:04 2007 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They are definitely lying to you. Your rotors wear out just like your brake pads but at a much slower rate. Usually they just have to be turned, which means they have to file them down so they are even all around because braking creates uneven wear on them. Depending on the type of brake pads (metallic or organic) your frequency of braking and pressure used (if you have ABS your golden) your rotors should last an average of 30 to 40 thousand miles.

What can i do about an owner who changed my email settings without my permission?
Q. I belong to a group where the owner has decided that none of the members can be on No Email status. She freely admits she will go in and periodically change anyone with No Email to Special Notices. So far, i have changed my email preference three times back to MY choice. My settings are for my convenince, not a group owner. How do I report this violation to Yahoo? The group owner did not have any posted rules about email preference and only recently posted a message to the group stating she would change the email setting of members so that no one would miss her posts.
Asked by Kathy L - Tue Sep 19 03:26:05 2006 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I'm not sure if reporting her to Yahoo will be of any use. If she freely admits she can and will go in and change your settings, it almost sounds like this is a term of use that you agreed to when you joined. I am assuming you want to stay with this group, so leaving is not an option. I would send her an e-mail asking her not to include me in here special notices broadcasts, as you will not read them anyway. Then I would set up a filter, in the client program I use to read emails, to filter for messages from this group and automatically delete them. Or, more poetically, set it to forward them to her address. That way, if she doesn't abide by your request, she fills her own in basket with her unwanted messages.

A. Have the Post Office forward your mail to your new address. Also you can notify the IRS by filling out this form: Note this information from this ( page: If you change your address after filing your return, you should notify the post office that services your old address. Because not all post offices forward government checks, notifying the post office that services your old address ensures that your mail will be forwarded, but not necessarily your refund check. To change your address with the IRS, you may complete a Form 8822 (PDF), Address Change Request, and send it to the address shown on the form.

What do you do when a customer claims that you short changed them ?

Asked by chanseypokemon - Mon Sep 18 23:24:46 2006 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It is standard practise in a lot of retail businesses to close the till and have a manager or second party count the till down. If you are over in your deposit, you have short changed the customer. Another thing I have done if it was too busy to close the till was to take the customer's name and number and call them at the end of business and let them know if the till was over or not. You're going to make mistakes, it's only human, but you don't want to fall for a con.

(And even a kid could tell that he wasn't really eating them) Yeah, I liked cookies, but of course I didn't eat them all the time--because my mom wouldn't let me. A. Dr. Craig Venter and scientist Francis Collins of the National Institute of Health jointly made the announcement of the mapping of the human genome in 2000. Upon examining the data from the genome mapping, he realized that although we are indeed further apart genetically from each other, (1-3% instead of the assumed 1%), the types of variations don't warrant calling each other different races. He says quote.."Race is a social concept. It's not a scientific one. There are no bright lines (that would stand out), if we could compare all the sequenced genomes of everyone on the planet." "When we try to apply science to try to sort out these social differences, it all falls apart." Different races are when you talk about cats, dogs, horses,… [cont.]

How has the abundance of hydrogen changed in the universe since the Big Bang?

Asked by sen_dog14 - Tue Jan 22 23:02:33 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The element is determined by the # of protons not the # of Neutrons. The isotope is determined by the # neutrons. Hydrogen without Neutrons is Hydrogen. Hydrogen with a neutron is deuterium, and if it has 2 neutrons it is called Tritium. Helium is produced in the first stage of a stars life cycle. 2 Hydrogen atoms (this includes deuterium and tritium) fuse together to yield helium and energy as well as a slight loss of mass. In later stages of a stars life cycle it starts producing ever heavier elements until if it is massive enough it goes supernova and a whole spectrum of elements are developed. As the universe ages more and more of the hydrogen is used up, but Hydrogen is still the most abundant element in the Universe. Tc Technetium… [cont.]

The monied elite took over the US government by political campaign contributions and lobbying. Congressmen wrote laws favorable to corporations, and under predominantly Republican rule, money moved upward. (Republicans move money upward to create more inequality; Democrats move money downward to create more equality.) You can see the result of thirty years of Reaganomics. Here is a chart showing how much Reagan increased inequality beginning thirty years ago: Corporations want to pay as little as possible for workers, so unions were methodically busted, which… [cont.]
