Am I supposed to provide favors to the bachelorette party guests?
Q. I was asked to plan the bachelorette party last minute because the person who was originally planning it backed out and didn't provide me with what she had already planned or any contact information. I live 1800 miles away from where the bachelorette party and wedding are taking place and will not be arriving until the day of the party. It was mentioned to me that I need to provide favors to all of the guests at the bachelorette party...Do I need to provide favors and if so what type of favors would be appropriate?
Asked by Caitlin - Mon Feb 15 12:36:15 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I don't think it is necessary to provide favors at bachelorette party...but you may consider some girls' night out favors like purse valets, perfume bottles if it is a must.

What are good party favors and centerpieces for a 60th birthday party?
Q. I am throwing a surprise 60th birthday party for my mom. The color scheme is pink, black and white. The restaurant is a Scottish-themed place, so I don't have to worry to much about decorations. I don't want to take away from the ambiance of the restaurant. I need ideas for the centerpieces and party favors/giveaways. My mom likes to drink tea, eat chocolate and nuts. She also collects Barbies and is very religious (Catholic). Please help!

A. Small house plants and candy coated almonds would be nice. You can get little favor boxes for the almonds and make cute gift wrapped boxes of them with a dainty ribbon on each. You can tie ribbon around the plants to decorate them also. Both are very inexpensive but nice for most everyone.

What are some unique and different kinds of birthday party favors that you can make?
Q. It's my 16th birthday coming up and i really want a fun and unique kind of party favor and not the typical kiddy "goody bag". For my sisters party favors we went to the dollar store and bought the old school coca cola glass cups and stuck a peice of styra foam in it and stuck in a bunch of lolly pops and it turned out really cute so im kinda looking for something like that but different.

A. Take ice cream sundae glasses, also at the Dollar Store and turn them into soda fountain drinks in a unique way... Fill each with bubble gum, or any favorite round colorful treat (jelly belly, M&M's etc.). Wiggle in two straws (the bend type). Top it off with two silk carnations (silk at Walmart cheap), cut the stem only the flower this will look like whip topping. Ad a red gum ball to the middle top, this will look like the cherry. Now you have a take home ice cream sundae that never melts! You can also get Chinese take home containers, decorate them with your theme, add gummy worms and candy pieces inside and have two chopsticks sticking out of the closed container. Ad a bow to the handle and you have a cute favor.

How do i start a business selling wedding favors?
Q. im 24 and im working as an engineer now 5days a week. How do i get started on producing and selling wedding favors? Money wise, i have little capital, and how do i go about selling it?
Asked by yasmin - Thu May 13 04:30:46 2010 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Your best bet may be to approach your friends first. You are right about in the age range where many of your girl friends are probably getting married soon. Or maybe they have other friends, relatives or sisters getting married. Word of Mouth may be your best bet in this field. Because of your shortage of funds, make only a small amount, which you can use to show people. Allow them to place orders and pay you the upfront cost of materials. Then charge them the balance, which is your time fee, afterwards.

What can I put inside miniature baskets as engagement favors?

A. We made up scrolls with little gold rings instead of ribbon. Of course we had our names, the date, etc. and also put the lyrics to "our" song and also the lyrics to Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce. We printed them at home on fancy paper with elegant font and customized a heart shaped graphic on the front with names and date. Printed both sides and folded so it was like four pages of text from each single page. You could put a picture of the two of you or anything else that's meaningful. How big are the little baskets? If somewhat large, a throwaway camera may be a nice idea. Or maybe be creative with the sweets -- such as little packs of only green m & m's. Or another candy that matches your wedding color. We got big, big kudo's… [cont.]

Where can I get a good deal on ghirardelli chocolates in bulk for wedding favors?
Q. We're thinking of stuffing the chocolate squares in boxes as wedding favors. Where would we be able to get a good deal on them? Thanks!

A. Costco sells those Ghirardelli squares in bulk, my future mother-in-law buys them in a big bag. The problem with Costco is that not all the stores carry the same things... but I would definitely check there. Also maybe a Gordon's Food Service (GFS)... they're not very common here in Michigan, tho.

How much do you spend on wedding favors?
Q. I am looking at doing carmel apples for my wedding favors. The come in wholesale boxes of 24 for $27.00. It is going to be about $1.13 a piece. Is this a good deal.

A. That's a great deal, and a very nice favor. We're doing a candy bar, and we figured that with the boxes, the stickers for the box, the candy and the vases, it would come out to just about three dollars per favor, which is more than I wanted to spend, but it's worth it. Just over a buck per favor is great! Awesome find ... congrats.

A. not only are they not important they are a huge waste of money! wedding favours and 'save the date' cards are just two of the many ways the wedding industry has come up with in order to get as much of your pay packet as they can. don't use either! most of us leave the darned favours sitting on the table when we leave the reception so forget about them! you stay on budget and have a very happy wedding sweetie!

Any ideas on how to make inexpensive baby shower favors?
Q. It's a boy...I've been pricing baby shower favors and they are very expensive. Any ideas on how to make my own?

A. I've always been able to make favors spending much less than I would if I bought them at a store or online. For a baby shower, I am dipping pretzel rods in light blue chocolate, decorating with white candy dots. I'm "wrapping" them in a clear cellophane bag and tying with a tag I created with card stock and "baby" themed stamps. All of these items can be purchases at a craft store (except pretzel rods). I've spent a total of around $30 for 100 favors. I purchase paper from paper-source.com. It's the nicest and cheapest paper. I get business cards for the favor tags. Hope this helps!
