What must see sights in Washington DC need to apply in advance and how?
Q. Want to visit Washington DC. Do you know what must see sights in Washington DC are required to apply in advance and how to do it? Besides the White House, is the advanced ticket required to visit the U.S. Capitol, by the way?
Asked by zilch - Sun Jul 11 02:13:58 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There's really only one: to see inside the White House, you must apply at least a month in advance. To do so, you must contact the office of your US Congressman, who will attempt to get tickets for you. For the best chance of getting tickets, apply about six months in advance. update to visit the US Capitol, you can make online reservations using this official website: You can also ask your Congressman or Senator's office to book the Capitol tour for you. It's also possible to just show up at the Capitol Visitor's Center for a tour, although if it's busy, you may have to wait quite some time--which is why it's best to reserve in advance.

Was George Washington supposed to start the French and Indian War?
Q. Was he ordered to do so by the governor of Virginia who deployed him (and if so, was the governor under orders?) or did Washington just decide it seemed prudent to attack the Frenchies?

A. What was it Sigmund Freud said... "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar?" I think this is one of those times. Washington was both green and ambitious. Quite simply, he blew it on his own. The events in the Spring of 1754 occurred too rapidly for there to have been any planning or communication between Washington and either the British or Governor Dinwiddie. Moreover, given the desire of the British to avoid bad publicity, it seems highly unlikely they would have approved a mission in which Washington signed a document in which he admitted "assassinating" a French commander. In retrospect, all the signs were pointing to war between Britain and France -- which is why I can see why you would ask the question -- but in this case, I doubt the… [cont.]

A. I would argue that avoiding foreign entanglements is quite important, even today. Also, avoiding political polarization is important in the face of modern political gridlock.

Q. How does Washington take into account the racially hostile climate that prevailed in the south during the progressive era? Is Du bois s criticism of Washington accurate? Hi im really not sure what the question above is asking..and was wondering if anyone knows the answer because i have to write a three paragraph essay about it and support my answers but im not sure about the question. A. Is it the intellectual/political principles that defined Booker T Washington and W.E. Dupois that you are asked to discuss? Washington was of the "school of slavery" belief: Learn how to cope with modern White European society, advance yourself by your own efforts, and succeed by assimilation. DuBois was of a black nationalist persuasion, demanding recognition of the superior aspects of the black American experience, and urging a public, political campaign.

How is the Eastern Market in Washington DC during the week?
Q. We are taking a family trip to Washington DC next week but we will only be there from Monday to Friday. I know the Eastern Market is pretty packed on the weekends and sometimes has live music and entertainment, but what's it like during the weekdays? Do you recommend it as a place to visit? Also, if you have any other tips on what to check out while in DC please let me know. Thanks =) Oh haha I wasn't worried about the crowds, I was just wondering if there was enough going on there during weekdays to make it a good place to visit. Thanks so much for your tips lilreadhead. :) The Spy Museum is definitely on our to do list.

A. The market itself is open Tuesday to Sunday - but will just be a market during the weeks. The open air farmers market and the arts and crafts festival as well as the live music and entertainment won't be there on weekdays. Unless you are shopping, I am not sure it is a tourist destination on weekdays. You might go there if you have an all day train pass, just to see the building, which is historic, but closed off due to a fire, and to get some picnic-type food for a lunch on the mall. As far as other tips, I have hundreds. Can you give us a better idea of your interests? Or look at my blog page below.

How do the marijuana laws compare between Oregon and Washington State? Which area is the most tolerant?
Q. I am wondering about the marijuana laws for Oregon and Washington. I have heard a lot about Oregon being very tolerant of marijuana, and having their medical card program. I don't know much about Washington State's laws, and would like to know how it compares with Oregon. And of course if you want to weigh in on quality between the two states that is fine too :)

A. I'm not sure about the rest of Washington (I know it's fairly lenient) but in Seattle, marijuana possession is officially the lowest priority for law enforcement. Hooray!

How hard is it to pass the Washington State Motorcycle drivers test?
Q. I'm considering purchasing a 750 Honda Shadow Spirit. Is this too big of a bike for the Washington State m/c drivers test? I understand that smaller bikes make passing the driver's part of the test easier. Years ago, I had a 750 (CB) and an 1100 (GL) before, and I'm an experienced rider, but not an expert by any means and thinking about the test makes me anxious.
Asked by Jim - Wed Nov 5 14:29:43 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Many facilities that provide motorcycle driver tests have the test course permanently set-up somewhere on the grounds. Locate a site with the course laid out and find out what days they don't test on. More often then not, the facility will allow you to practice on the course when it's not in use. Find a licensed person to go there with you; to keep things legal.

What do I need in order to take my dog to Canada from Washington?
Q. I'm planning a trip to Canada from Washington state and I want to make sure I won't have troubles crossing the boarder into Canada and then back into Washington. I'm going by car. Do I need to show a license? Vaccination Records? Do they even ask? Who should I ask? Would the vet know or do I need to call some unknown department in Washington?
Asked by Lainey - Tue Jun 9 14:38:01 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would carry the shots records from the vet, his registration papers showing you as the owner, a clean checkup report from the vet. The vet should be able to tell you. Good luck. I know someone who had a bad experience going to Canada from Washington state. Nothing to do with the dogs, but it was a mess. Her friend was traveling with her and the fried had a dog along. They never even questioned the one with the dog, just let her go thru.

Can I grow a lemon tree in Washington State?
Q. I live near the coast in Washington State and we have fairly rainy and cold winters with decent summers (aside from this year). It does freeze in the winter quite a bit, Are these too harsh of conditions to grow a lemon tree outside?

A. Sure, you can. In the house. I can't think of anywhere in Washington state that a lemon can be grown outdoors successfully year-round in the open weather. I know I am going to get all kinds of flak from you folks who live on Lake Washington in Kirkland or Bellevue, but if you are honest, you are giving that lemon tree a helping hand in the winter time. It ain't happenin', and I'm not buying it. But do grow one in your sunniest window, they are attractive and simple houseplants.

Q. I am interested in relocating to Washington, DC in the future. If I choose to relocate, I will move there after the year 2010. I might have to live on my own and with no family and/or friends around and not being married. If I choose to relocate to Washington, DC, what are the advantages and disadvantages for a single individual to reside in the nations capital and the changers of the surrounding that I will be residing in?

A. Advantages: *A lot to do! Especially if you are interested in history. The Smithsonian museum are free! *DC gets a lot of great bands - so its a great place for music! The club scene is good too! *Easy to get around - Although it can be slow The DC metro (subway) is easy to use and they are often open late on weekends! *Good Sports Teams - Redskins, Capitals, Nationals, DC United, Wizards... Disadvantages: *Its expensive. Expect to pay at least $1000 per month on rent if you want to live alone. It will probably be a lot higher by 2010! *Traffic sucks. At the rate new developments are going in, I doubt this will be solved by the time you get here. My advice. Visit DC for the weekend or a week and see how you like it.

What are the warmest cities in Washington State?
Q. I am wanting to move from California to Washington. I sometimes struggle with a little seasonal depression so I need to move to a city in Washington that has the most sunshine or least amount of rain. Can anyone suggest some cities I should check out? Ideally I would like someplace warmish that is commuting distance from Seattle but I am open to any place in Washington.

A. Warmest & sunniest aren't always the same. Spokane is much drier & sunnier than Seattle. It is more extreme in temperature, however--warmer in the summer and colder in the winter. Yakima is a little closer to Seattle but out of commuting range(140 miles). It is warmer & drier than Spokane. Unfortunately, the entire Seattle metro area will be colder & cloudier than California. The links below compare Spokane, Seattle, & Yakima.

Is it logical to move from to Washington state from New York to attend community college?
Q. My best friend lives in Washington and we have been talking about my move there. The rent would be $250 with everything included. I have about $1200 saved up, and would be attending a college nearby to her house. I would try finding a job as soon as I got there, and would continue pursuing my nursing degree. Does this sound like a possibility? I'm a little nervous about moving out. I'm still living at home, and thought this would be a good opportunity to be more independent.

A. I live in Oregon, and am a college student. God, hard to believe I am saying that now that i am 40. But to answer your question, yes, it does seem logical. Of course there is those pesky out of state tuition you need to address before the move, unless you can have someone vouch for you and tell them you lived in Washington for 1 year. $250 is a great deal, of course work in the northwest is nearly non-existant. But there is the pell grant at www.fafsa.gov, and many scholarships to look into, and if nothing else you can always do the student loans. So sure, why not, go for it.

What is the best way to travel from Washington DC Intl Airport to UNVA Manassas Virginia?
Q. I am planning to pursue a weekend MBA program from UNVA at Manassas in Virginia. My job requires me to travel and i intend to travel to the school on weekends. Is there any public transport available from Washington DC airports to University of Northern Virginia at Manassas , Virginia on Weekends (Saturday Sunday) Are there any cheap options available in the neighbourhood of the school available where you can bunk in for a night and go to school the next day ?

Based on their website, it appears that while the school is licensed by Virginia, it is not accredited--at least by the mainstream accrediting organizations in the US. Were you aware of this? That doesn't necessarily mean that the school isn't good, but it does mean that many employers won't accept a degree from the school, nor can you easily transfer credits to another school. They also don't appear to advertise in the local media, and they have offices/campus overseas--it appears that they are targeting international students who want to get a visa to study in America, regardless of the… [cont.]
