How do wedding and engagement rings work?
Q. This topic confuses me... Is the engagment ring traditionally more expensive, or cheaper than the wedding ring? Why are there 2 rings (engagement and wedding) wouldnt that be extremely expensive? Does the guy get an engagement ring too, or is the just the girl? Does the girl have to buy the guys wedding ring? Does the couple shop for the wedding rings together? Also, isn't there an engagement/wedding ring that is like 2 pieces, and when the wedding comes you get the 2nd piece?

A. Q - Is the engagment ring traditionally more expensive, or cheaper than the wedding ring? A - The engagement ring is more expensive. Traditionally the man is supposed to spend 3 months salary on one, but that isn't really done as much these days. Q - Why are there 2 rings (engagement and wedding) wouldnt that be extremely expensive? A - Most engagement rings & wedding bands can be bought in a set to save money & then the rings will also match. There doesn't always have to be an engagement ring, but it's just grown to be a custom. When people mention being engaged everyone always wants to see the engagement ring. The wedding band speaks for itself. Q - Does the guy get an engagement ring too, or is the just the girl? A - Guys can have an… [cont.]

do have a catholic wedding do you have to get married in a church?
Q. I'm planning my friends wedding and her cousin is a priest who they'd like to have conduct the vows. They want a catholic wedding, one honored by the church, but they want to have a outdoor wedding as well. As Catholic's are we allowed to be wed outside the church or does it need to be in a church in order to have your wedding blessed by the church?
Asked by rlyni - Tue Dec 9 10:59:35 2008 - - 9 Answers - 1 Comments

A. In order for it to be a Catholic wedding and seen as a marriage by the Catholic church, you must be married in a Catholic church. Because of the strong stance the Catholic church has on weddings, your friend's cousin will not be able to perform the ceremony or even appear there as a priest unless it is in a church. I had some very dear friends of mine be excommunicated for "living in sin" because their marriage wasn't performed in a church. They had it in a nondenominational chapel of a location that meant a great deal to them. It didn't make any difference to the church. They were still considered to not be married. Your friend needs to decide what is more important, an outdoor wedding, or a Catholic wedding. Good luck.

What is a good wedding reception invitation headline for a reception days after the wedding ceremony?
Q. My fiance and I are planning to have a courthouse wedding ceremony this May with close family and friends. Then a few days later we are planning to have a huge wedding reception for everyone to come and celebrate our union. The problem is, I don't know that "correct" words or phrase to use on the wedding reception invitations without sounding offensive to those who may have not been invited to the ceremony. So, what is a good way to word my wedding reception invitations?

A. My suggestion would be something like "Please join us for a celebration of the (recent) marriage/union of [insert names]." Here's an excerpt from the about.com website about reception invitation wording - Invitation to Reception Only It is becoming more common for a couple who eloped or had a destination wedding to have a reception later in their hometown. Be careful in the phrasing - don't make it look like there was a local wedding to which they weren't invited, or that you only want more gifts. Wedding Reception at a hotel in san francisco japan town, how can i add subtle japanese touches to my wedding?
Q. Ok so we are planning on having our reception at the Hotel Kabuki! it was recently renovated to be very modern and even has gone green. we love the venue but did not plan on a japanese decor, and really would love to accent our wedding with the japanese theme.our food and beverages already have subtle touches we want to see it in our centerpieces, and favors , tradition, and attire. our colors are platinum ,aubergine and lavender .

A. That sounds great! I secretly wish we were having a japanese theme, but it doesn't go with the colors and overall feel that we have already picked out for our April 09 wedding. That said, why don't you have little bonsai trees for centerpieces? You can also have cherry blossom branches, but the real ones are expensive and the fake ones are hard to find. Unless you get married somewhere in the Northeast around April, climb a tree, and get crackin'! Lol. You can always get those pink paper lanterns, have your girls carry japanese fans instead of flower bouquets, and hand out japanese sweets for favors. Also, there are favor boxes and place card holders with japanese kanji on them on theknot.com, you might want to check that out. Hope… [cont.]

How do dates of the wedding party get to the wedding?
Q. My boyfriend is in a wedding party and they are getting dressed with the groom in the hotel and going to the church. After the ceremony they are going to take pictures and then go to the reception hall. We won't have cars since it's an out of town wedding. How do I get to the wedding and then to the reception hall? Do I have to hope that one of the other girlfriends of the groomsmen is willing to give me a ride?

A. You will either drive yourself or ask your guy to arrange it. I went to my fiances sisters wedding when we were dating and just rode along in an extra car with him and some of the other bridal party. At the reception I sat with his brother in law since his other sister was MOH. Then after dinner and all the toasts we mingled together and danced the rest of the night.

How does a renewal vow wedding or a second wedding suppose to go?
Q. we never had a wedding, just the court house. My husband says since we're already married we can't have a wedding. I disagree, because we have the marriage, but never had a wedding or a honeymoon. How should the ceremony go. Can we still get married in catholic church?

A. You can still have a wedding its renewing the vows. My hubby and I got married in vegas and everything for something quick and fun. Now almost 2 years later we are going to have our renewing of the vows which to everyone whom did not come to our little wedding (which is the whole family) will get to be apart of it no matter what. You can choose to renew your vows anywhere and can change them how you seem fit. We are writing our own vows and everything and are going to have fun with this wedding and actually have a honeymoon. (didnt have one either even though we were in vegas, plus he had to leave for iraq) In all just plan your renewing just like you would have your real wedding and remember to have fun. ps dont listen to the person… [cont.]

A. A shower is not organized or planned or scheduled by the Bride. So, let's start take a giant step backwards and do it the right way. Neither the Bride nor the Bride's Mother nor the Groom's Mother nor any sisters or sister-in-laws should host (plan, organize or pay for) a shower. It is a form of solicitation and inappropriate. Many people use the terms wedding and bridal shower interchangeably but usually a bridal shower applies to items or gifts "for the Bride" and a wedding shower applies to items or gifts "for the Bride and Groom." A shower is usually hosted by the Maid or Matron of Honor UNLESS she is an immediate member of the family. If the Maid of Honor is the Bride's sister then one of the bridesmaids should host the shower (w [cont.]

What is the reason behind the wedding cake in a western wedding?
Q. In a western style wedding, the couple is usually asked to cut the wedding cake. What's the meaning behind the wedding cake?
Asked by jonglah - Mon Oct 9 03:17:00 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A wedding cake is the traditional cake served to the guests at a wedding breakfast, after a wedding. It is usually a large cake, multi-layered or tiered, and heavily decorated with icing, occasionally over a layer of marzipan or fondant, topped with a small statue of a bride and groom. Other common motifs include doves, gold rings and horseshoes, the latter symbolising good luck. Achieving a dense, strong cake that can support the decorations while remaining edible can be considered the epitome of the baker's art and skill. Tradition generally requires that the first cut of the cake be performed by bride and groom together, often with a ceremonial knife, or even a sword. An older, archaic tradition had the bride serve all portions to the… [cont.]

A. Know Your Ingredients Wedding CAKE The main ingredients of shortened cakes are fat, sugar, eggs and flour. Some recipes also call for chemical leaveners (baking powder or baking soda), milk, buttermilk or sour cream, flavoring extracts, and a pinch of salt to heighten the flavors. A feature that characterizes shortened cakes--also known as "high-ratio cakes"--is their high proportion of fat and sugar to flour. These ingredients are what make cakes tender, moist and dense. Since there are so few ingredients in these cakes, use high-quality butter and pure flavoring extracts, measure with perfect accuracy and follow the recipe directions to achieve the best results. Butter is usually the fat of choice, or a combination of butter and… [cont.]

What kind of wedding flowers would compliment a turquoise theme?
Q. My bridesmaids, wedding dress trim, and groomsmen will all be rocking turquoise at our wedding in a year. My mother is in charge of flowers and is having a hard time coming up with something that will compliment that color! I thought pink roses or stargazer lilies would be best but she thinks I'm nuts. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

A. The best way to compliment turquoise would be with strong vivid colors that match light blue. Forget the light creams and whites and go bold with deep purples, reds and even orange. Use Lisianthus, dahlias, garden roses and lilac. New Zealand calla lilies come in a variety of colors, look rich and can be easily placed in any design.

Ever played violin for a wedding ceremony?
Q. Hi! I've been asked to play violin for a wedding ceremony (I live in Pa) though I play very well I have never done a wedding. I'm wondering how much I should charge? Also how do I know how to get the timing of the music down so it ends at the right moment after they come down the isle when there's no way to know until the rehearsal itself. I'd appreciate any advice from someone who's performed for wedding on how to go about things. Thanks so much!

A. I have played with 3 other people for 2 weddings. (It was a quartet they wanted.) Since the parents of the bride were teachers at the school, we agreed that each of us get $50 ($200 total) for just playing the wedding song and extra (depending on how long they wanted us to play at the reception).

From my experience though I remember my aunt and uncles first wedding almost 10 years ago and on their 5 year anni. they got re-married and went on their first honeymoon. They had their second wedding in a big open field that had nothing around for what seemed like miles. They had a couple huge tents set up and an area set up for the ceremony. They catered in food from one of their favorite resturants and hired a DJ. They had their family and friend and were more relaxed because, hey they had already done it one. What is the usual tradition around Indian wedding receptions in India?
Q. My understanding is that it is a party arranged by the groom's family, in the groom's city, to celebrate the wedding and to introduce the bride to their family and friends. It is usually held 2 or 3 days after the wedding. Few other people say its just another function which happens the same day of the wedding in the same venue where people can give gifts, etc , which in my thinking, is part of the wedding function itself, not a reception. I know there are no strict rules but what is the usual procedure, specially in Gujarati weddings?
