Wedding band...?
Q. My fiance and I went to the jewlers yesterday to pick out a wedding band and I picked out a white gold band with about 5 small diamonds set in the band. I looked online later and saw that this band is called an "anniversary band". I was just wondering what you girls though about this? Also, I'm wondering how common this type of ring is as a wedding band, or do most of you have just a plain wedding band? Thank ahead of time!

A. Most of my friends have an anniversary ring as their wedding band. That way they can wear just the wedding band and it still have a little sparkle to it.

What to do with wedding band during basic training?
Q. I'm about to go into army basic training at Ft Leonard Wood. I'm married and my wedding band has diamonds so I don't want to wear it. What are other females' experience with wedding bands? Did you just not wear anything and risk being hit on? Did you buy a cheap ring to wear?
Asked by blair - Tue Jul 13 22:51:29 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Either you leave it at home with your husband or it will be stored with the rest of your personal effects at basic. You will fill out a detailed list of your belongings before it is stored. It's sealed in a box or bag and returned to you upon graduation. Or you can buy a cheap ring if you like, but it's just best to leave it at home to keep it safe.

What is the best way to sell a wedding band and engagement ring?
Q. I have a wedding band and engagement ring that I want to sell. They are both 14k gold, and I don't really know anything about the diamond in the engagement ring. I also have another 14k gold ring that the stone fell out of that I would like to sell. What is the best way to sell these rings?

A. If you want to sell some gold that youre no longer wearing any more you can sell it directly to a refiner. You have the option of shopping it around but that takes a lot of work. Use this calculator to see how much you can get for it

Does the wedding band go on the outside of the engagement ring during the wedding ceremony?
Q. If the bride wears her engagement ring during the wedding ceremony, then the wedding band must be placed outside of it on the ring finger. However, the wedding band is traditionally worn on the inside. When does the order of the rings on the finger change, so that the wedding band is on the inside?
Asked by undersoup - Mon Sep 4 18:36:55 2006 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments
A. According to the newest edition of Wedding Etiquette by Emily Post, the bride should wear the engagement ring on the RIGHT hand on the day of the ceremony. This way the wedding band can be placed immediately on the LEFT finger during the ceremony. Alternately, a bride can wear the engagement ring on her left middle or pinky finger - but there's a chance of it getting stuck or slipping off. A final alternative might be to have the bride slip her engagement ring off just prior to the ring exchange - but this can offer the chance for a loss/mishap. I wore my engagement ring on my right hand for the ceremony. NO ONE saw or noticed the difference, and directly after the ceremony I quietly slipped the engagement ring onto my left hand -… [cont.]

Selling a wedding band to an international buyer instead of a local buyer, more risky?
Q. I listed a wedding band on kijiji (a site similiar to craigs list) and I have to interested buyers. One of them is local and one is international. I am wondering if it would be too much of a risk to sell to the international buyer? They want to pay with Paypal. Could I get scammed? The Kijiji website states it's best to keep transactions local.
Asked by metstark - Thu Aug 21 07:32:11 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. PayPal is safe, and has protections in place for both buyers and sellers. Get your payment first, then be sure to ship with a method that will give you a tracking number, so that you have proof it was sent, and where it is in case the buyer tries to have PayPal reverse the transaction because he never received it. Otherwise it's the buyer more at risk, and this is online classifieds, not eBay, there are less repercussions for a seller. Just use common sense and protect yourself!

Q. The engagement ring has one large center stone and eight smaller stones, 4 on each side. all round cut. Don't know what type of wedding band to get to go with it. Help with ideas.

A. Choose a wedding band that compliments your engagement ring and adds to its beauty. I would go for a wedding band that has diamonds cut in similar shape and are of the same color as your engagement ring. The two rings should look like they belong together (like you and your fiance). Shop around until you find the right look. I found good info about diamonds on this site: www.diamond-empire.com/Di amond-wedding-rings.html All the best.

What do you think about having your wedding band's engraved?
Q. My fiance and I want to get our nicknames for each other but only the initials (they're sort of sexual) for both. Do you think we would have to explain that to everyone or could it be something that stays between us? What is engraved in your wedding band?

A. You do whatever you wish to do. Sexual nicknames engraved into your rings sounds like a great idea to me. I wish we had thought of it when we were married. I'm wishing you the greatest married life ever. Even as good as ours (41 years). We never had anything engraved in our rings. You've given me a great 42nd anniversary present idea. Thank you.

What does it mean when someone wears a gold wedding band on their right ring finger?
Q. Does it mean something different, like what it means in America to wear a wedding band on your left? A potential boyfriend sent me some pictures on my phone today and I noticed in one he had a gold band but on his right hand. Worried now that he may be married and not tell me... :(

A. He might be, but there are many reasons why a man has a ring. It could have been his father's or grandfather's... Maybe it is just something he bought for himself... He might be trying to attract a women, a lot of men get more attention from women if the women think they are married (proven fact) He could be married and just moved the ring to the other side... Ask him, if he sounds like he is lying, maybe he is... you can never be sure

Is it safe to always wear your wedding band?
Q. I haven't taken my wedding band/engagement ring off since the wedding which was about a week ago. Is it ok to shower with it, and such? I haven't been using any chemicals while cleaning up our apartment, but if I do I had planned on taking it off only then. A few family members have said it's not good for diamonds to be worn while taking a shower though, is this true?
Asked by The Mrs - Sat Jul 25 16:19:10 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You aren't going to ruin the ring wearing it all the time - - with the exception of when cleaning because you could have harsh chemicals causing damage to the setting. However, it is in the best interest of you to not wear it when sleeping or excercising because your hands could swell at those times and wearing any ring is not good if you are swelling. It is also a good idea to take the ring off when showering and washing your hands because the soap can leave a residue on the ring. It won't cause damage but you will need to clean it more.

A. The size of a stone has very little to do with the value. As a matter of fact, large stones can come across looking very cheap and gaudy. A simple, near perfect smaller stone is the way to go. I came along in a time when the woman didn't "pick out" her diamond. She was surprised by the groom to be(when he proposed) and accepted his choice. My husband, of 35 years, made a wonderful choice. Mine is a 3/4 VVS1. I have a small, slender band to match. His is about 3/8 inch wide(no diamond). They are simple, elegant and represent lots of memories.

What metals can a men's wedding band be made of?
Q. I am engaged and was wondering what all different metals (besides gold, white gold, silver, platinum) can be used to create jewelry. Specifically a wedding band. Also, wondering if anyone knew of any websites that show unusual wedding band designs. any and all help is appreciated.

A. palladium If you like the white metals, this gives you the most bang for your buck. It is as strong as platinum, is much lighter, platinum is super heavy, doesn't tarnish or need to be dipped like white gold, is super hypoallergenic and because many people haven't heard of it yet the cost is very affordable comparable to white gold. Titanium is a great choice too. Doesn't corrode, is slightly darker than platinum is 30 percent lighter and are hard to find.

According to etiquette, do I wear my grandmother's engagement ring alone or with the wedding band?
Q. I'm single, just turned 28 and recently inherited my grandmother's three-diamond engagement ring and solid gold wedding band. The diamond ring is beautiful and I'd like to wear it on my right hand - not as an engagement or wedding ring - but my family and friends can't decide whether it's proper to wear it with or without the wedding band. Are there any etiquette rules about this?
Asked by numberoneaggie - Fri Jan 2 05:31:38 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I wear my grandmothers ring as my engagement ring - felt it made it more special, when looking for an engagement ring I kept being drawn to rings very similar. Previous to this I kept it in its box, hidden for 10 years, scared I would lose it or it would get it stolen, If not as an engagement ring I guess you can wear it as you please with or without the wedding band as this will have no significance other than the sentimental meaning being your grandmothers. Please get the ring(s) valued, insured and get the setting checked in case any stones are loose.

If I have a platinum diamond ring would a white gold wedding band stick out?
Q. My wife has a platinum engagement ring, and I have only found a white gold wedding band so far. Would she notice the difference between the two? Or better yet would it be noticeable to others? I know about rhodium plating and all that, But I just want to know if it would look bad in general?

A. Hi there, There is brightness difference between platinum and white gold. By time, there might be noticeable difference because platinum is scratch free; white gold is not. You already mentioned about the rhodium plating so I guess you know when it is gone, yellow gold will be visible.
