What finger is a wedding ring worn on where you are from?
Q. I used to think that wedding rings are always worn on the left ring finger. Then when I lived in Germany I learned otherwise. I learned that in Germany people wear engagement rings on the left ringfinger and the wedding ring on the right ringfinger. In the US both the engagement ring and wedding ring are worn on the left ringfinger. Where is the wedding ring worn in your culture?

A. Left ringfinger. No engagement ring.

Took off my wedding ring and now my finger is deformed, how long before it goes back down to size?
Q. I've been married for 8 years and 5 years ago when I was pregnant my fingers swelled up and I was unable to take my wedding ring off. That is, until today, more than 5 years later. Now that I took it off, Im planning to have it resized, but Im wondering how long it might take before my ring finger no longer looks deformed. I have quite an indent where my ring use to be. Any thoughts on this?

A. Yes, about the same happened to me. I had the rings removed and it took my fingers weeks (if not a few months) to return to their natural shape.

Which ring has to be better, the wedding ring or the engagement ring?
Q. I didn't even know before that there was a difference between them. Most women I know only always had the wedding ring on, which was usually golden and matches their husband's wedding ring. Therefore the wedding ring always seemed to be the important ring. But after doing more research, it seems that many women seem to wear both. Is that a newer thing or does it depend on the country? Because I have really never seen that before. Which ring is considered to be the more important ring and usually costs more?

A. The engagement ring typically costs more. The wedding ring is typically the most important because it is symbolic of the marriage. Remember that rings are not necessary, although most women want them. A ring is only a ring until you attach the meaning to it. I live in northeast USA. What a woman wears is her preference. My friend in Massachusetts never wanted an engagement ring, so she only has a wedding ring to wear. My mother-in-law in Connecticut doesn't wear any rings, although she has them both. Everyone else I know wears both rings together. When my husband and I bought our wedding bands (which we shopped for together), the jeweler told me that because my ring is technically an eternity band, it can never be sized and… [cont.]

What is the difference between an engagement ring and a wedding ring?
Q. Ladies, when your man wants to marry you, does he buy an engagement ring and a wedding ring, or are they both the same thing? Do ladies prefer it when your mother or your grandmother gives you her wedding ring to have or do you prefer to have your own ring? When the time comes to buy the ring or rings, do you two normally go together or is this something the man has to do alone?

A. the engagement ring is a sign of marriage on the way and that she is taken. this ring can be whatever you want it to be. alot of girls opt for diamonds, but i wanted a natural blue sapphire for my center stone :) depending if the ring was a significant heirloom, they may want their own. if you are ready to be engaged, im sure your gf has given you SOME hint about what she wants her ring to look like. the wedding band is what is put on when you say your vowels. it is a complete circle that never ends and is described as your relationship and how your love is to never end. these two rings can be bought as a set or seperately. if they come as a set, you only give her the engagement ring and then show her the wedding band that goes… [cont.]

Why is my wedding ring turning my finger colors all the sudden?
Q. My wedding ring is turning my finger greenish black. It looks like tarnish, except that my ring is solid gold and I have worn it for 14 years. What is causing this? I have not been using any cleaners or different soap so I dont think it is from chemicals.

Q. Im from asia, and over here marriages are done differently but i have often seen in the movies that people propose with a ring. The ring that they offer while proposing, down on their knees, is it the engagement ring ?? And then again there is a wedding ring ??? And which one contains the diamond ???

A. Traditionally and Engagement ring is a band with a Solitaire diamond. It is given when the man asks the woman to marry him. The wedding ring is a solid band that has no end and is give when the couple actually gets married. The woman will usually wear both rings on the left hand ring finger everyday for the rest of her life.

What is the proper way to wear wedding and engagement ring together?
Q. My cousin is getting married in June, and she plans to wear her wedding ring to the outside of her engagement ring. My cousin argues that the engagement ring is placed on first, so it is supposed to be worn to the inside. When I got married, i didn't wear my engagement ring at the ceremony, because I thought the wedding band was supposed to be placed and worn at the base of the finger. Therefore I wear my wedding ring to the inside. Does anyone know the proper way it's supposed to be worn?
Asked by missy13d69 - Wed Mar 21 00:36:28 2007 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You are supposed to wear your engagement ring on your other hand during the ceremony. The wedding ring goes on during the ceremony, and you put your engagement ring back on after. Your wedding ring should always be first, as it is closest to your heart, and your engagement ring is a "shield" to your wedding ring. You are right, your cousin is wrong.

A. Thats really pretty, whoever gets that is a lucky girl! Honestly, I would NOT buy a ring online. The best way to make sure you don't get ripped off is to research the proper way to buy a diamond ring... Do a google search for "buying an engagement ring" or "buying loose diamonds" There is more to it than you know! OFTEN times, buying online is another way to support child labor. Or cheap labor from other countries...stay away from Debeers for instance! I wouldn't trust an online seller.. Best to see what your buying in person! I think that if you print out that image, and go to a few different loose diamond dealers, who would also own a jewelery shop, you will get the best results. They know the industry well! Can I wear a 9ct White gold wedding Ring with a 18ct White Gold engagement ring?
Q. I have found a Lovely 9ct White Gold wedding ring and i cant find it in 18ct White Gold! My Engagement ring is 18ct Gold will it make any difference? I have asked a similar question earlier but worded it very wrong!!! Sorry!
Asked by Saz S - Fri Apr 9 15:55:53 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Of course you can... White gold is formed from other metals they mix with yellow gold so the only difference between the 9K and the 18K is the amount of alloys (other metals) that they used to make the mix. The only thing you should check on is if they used nickel in the mix. Lots of people have a reaction to wearing nickel so they've mostly stopped using it in making white gold but it is worth checking out. On the other hand, if it does and you don't have a reaction to nickel, then go with it anyway. Congrats on finding your rings...so exciting!

Asked by Scott - Sat Jul 24 18:04:28 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. An engagement ring is what the man gives the woman when he proposes marriage to her and she accepts. Once she accepts, they are engaged. Usually the ring is a solitary diamond, but sometimes there are other diamonds to decorate the ring. The solitary diamond is a symbol that the woman is his one-and-only love. A wedding ring is a band. The bride and groom exchange bands during their wedding ceremony after they have exchanged their wedding vows. (The bride will buy the groom his wedding band and vice versa). Sometimes the band is plain, sometimes is has smaller diamonds or engraved decorations on the ring. The band represents their eternal unending love, just as the band's circle has no beginning and no end. The wedding ring does not have… [cont.]

How much should a wedding ring cost?
Q. I'm not looking forward to the cost of the ring, the wedding, and all the other bills that come with this event but I do love this girl and this is going to happen. I'm thinking the average is about 6-10k for the ring. Is this too much? Too little? What does everyone think?

A. That's plenty! You should only get what you can afford *without* incurring debt. I got my wife's ring at Diamond Brokers of Florida: Or you could check out these other online sources: www.WhiteFlash.com www.GoodOldGold.com www.ExcelDiamonds.com www.BlueNile.com Blue Nile's database is good, but they don't provide you with photos or analysis reports (ASET, Isee2, B-scope, etc) of the diamond. I wouldn't go with them for that reason. Happy hunting. * * *

A. I have done months, and MONTHS of research on engagement and wedding rings. I have looked everywhere from Zales, to Tiffany & Co, to online. As far as prices go, the general rule is 2 months salary. Now there is no set thing as to whether it's net or gross income. The most important thing is to try to stay within your budget, regardless of if it's 2 months salary, 2 weeks salary, or 6 months salary. For a really good quality, affordable ring, I suggest going to They have a large selection, good quality, great reviews, and they checked out very well when I looked them up with the better business bureau. Asked by nursie - Fri May 2 13:57:54 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, it is perfectly alright to mix platinum and white gold rings, noone will ever tell the differance - here is why: Both platinum and white gold are plated with a metal called rhodium. White gold jewelry is nearly always plated with rhodium because the metal gold is really yellow in color and when they melt it and alloy it (that is mix other metals into it) to 'whiten' gold it still has a faintly yellowish tint. Rhodium gives white gold that color that is pure silvery white like chrome. Platinum, which is already white, needs to be plated with rhodium because platinum has a dull luster and not give us that shiny mirror polish like silver or gold. So whether a ring is white gold or platinum - you are really looking at RHODIUM (which, by… [cont.]
